RA were approached by the client to provide a planning strategy and full set of architectural drawings to demolish the existing 1960s dwelling with a replacement 4 storey home which 3 families would be living together.

The design had to respect each family’s privacy whilst still allowing the building to operate as one large home. The client was keen for the house to ‘flow’ to move between spaces of different functions seamlessly.

The RA

Planning permission was approved for the replacement dwelling along the Spinney in the Conservation area of Coventry.

17,000sqft dwelling is split across four floors, 9 bedrooms, equipped with home gym, cinema room and spa.

The loss of the existing dwelling was supported with a contemporary design ‘of its time’. The modern brick work ties the building to the history of the site whilst green walls provide an increase in net-biodiversity gain, bedding the building into its landscape.

Through the use of natural light, double height spaces and careful arrangement of spice kitchens and utility spaces the design is open and bright and as you enter the home with key family spaces and views into the garden framed as you move through the building.
