Brief

RA were appointed to design 2 units on land previously used for agricultural purposes.

The site requires access from the highway for bin collection, the retention of an existing barn which any additional dwelling must take into consideration and the site must have a biodiversity net gain.

The RA
Difference

The site was constrained by Local Planning Authority concerns of overdevelopment and the impact of any development on neighbouring properties.

RA were able to design a scheme in which 3 dwellings sit comfortably within a courtyard development, respecting the neighbouring properties with each dwelling having its own private amenity.

Sensitive scale & massing of the courtyard development required a series of 3D modelled sun studies to demonstrate to the council the impact of the proposal on the sites wider context.

The appearance of the new units took influence from the existing barn, taking historical cues and blending them with a contemporary approach.
